A Different World
Nigerian veteran actor Richard Mofe-Damijo, popularly known as RMD, has added another international credit to his impressive acting career with a special appearance in Netflix’s new A Different World.
The Nigerian actor appears as Mr. Chukwu in the seventh episode of the newly released series, giving Nigerian viewers another reason to pay attention to the highly anticipated return of the classic American sitcom.
RMD joins a new generation
A Different World returned to screens on September 24, 2026, nearly four decades after the original series first premiered on NBC in 1987.
The new sequel introduces a new generation of students at the fictional Hillman College while bringing back the spirit of the original show for a modern audience.
Although RMD is not part of the main cast, his appearance adds a notable Nigerian presence to the production.
Nigerian actor Chibuikem Uche also plays an important role in the new series as Kojo Achebe, a Ghanaian-Nigerian fashion entrepreneur and student at Hillman College.
Another international moment for RMD
For RMD, the Netflix appearance represents another step in a career that has extended beyond Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
The actor has remained one of Nollywood’s recognizable faces across generations, appearing in numerous Nigerian films and television productions.
His appearance in A Different World also highlights the increasing visibility of African actors in international productions.
Why Nigerians are talking about it
International appearances by Nigerian actors often generate excitement among Nigerian entertainment fans because they create opportunities for African talent to reach audiences outside the continent.
RMD’s role may be brief, but his appearance gives Nigerian viewers a familiar face to look out for while watching the new series.
With Netflix continuing to expand its international audience, collaborations involving African actors are becoming increasingly visible on major streaming platforms.
